Simply treating your edged weapons with respect and care will easily keep them looking brand new for many years to come.

Every sword owner should respect and take great care of their weapons. Swords can be damaged easier than you think and although they are made of strong metal they will get scratched and dinted if struck against something equally hard. Do not strike your sword against another sword or against and hard object.

The sort of parrying you see in theatrical sword fights are not the way the sword was designed to be used. Theatrical swords have a very wide and blunt edge, this helps protect them from damage when striking another sword. Your sword on the other hand has a very delicate and sharp edge. It was designed for cutting, slicing and slashing.

Always use your newly purchased sword for its intended use, ie. do not try to cut down a tree or hack a shopping trolley to bits. Doing so is neglect to your prized weapon and will result in it being badly damaged. If you want to practice cutting movements with your sword use either a plastic bottle half filled with water or branches from a bamboo tree. Both of these or not as stable or rigid as a tree or other heavy object. Striking these objects will not cause the blade of your sword to bend or warp and you can still effectively practice your sword style.

The amount of places you can find buy real swords online is vast. Often times people new to the sword collecting hobby can be a bit lost and unfortunately they end up purchasing something that is nothing more than an ornament.

Of course if you are purely looking for a sword to hand on your wall and not a real sword you can pretty much just look at any website, find a sword that looks appealing to you and buy it. Don’t spend too much money as you don’t really are about the quality of the sword.

However be aware that there is a huge difference between a sword that you just hang on a wall and a real sword that has been built as a weapon that you can actually cut things with and use to practice swordsmanship safely.

But if you are like me when I first started my sword collection, you might not know that there is a world of difference between an ornamental sword that you hang on the wall and a REAL sword that you can actually swing through the air or cut things with!

If you are looking to buy a real sword you want to buy something that is marketed as a functional sword, a functional sword will be full tang and made from high carbon steel.

Three vitally important things to look for when buying a real sword online are:

  • They are not made from stainless steel or any other metal alloy than high carbon steel.
  • The swords have all been heat treated. This ensures your swords blade is high quality and will not fracture or break.
  • The sword has full tang, this means the blade and the handle are made from one piece of metal. Using a sword that is not full tang for anything other than ornamental purposes is not just unsafe its reckless and stupid.

Many online sword shops today claim to sell battle ready real swords. This is not true and many of these companies are just looking to make a quick buck. We at BuySwordOnline.com recommend True Sword swords as a reliable and trusted online sword vendor.

straight-edge-samurai-sword1curved-edge-samurai-swordSamurai swords originated from Korea and China and were originally know as chokuto. These swords had a straight blade and were sharpened only on one side. These swords were later replaced by curved blade swords. These new curved blades were know as tachi. Curved blades offered a lot of benefits over straight bladed samurai swords in that they could be withdrawn from the scabbard faster and they gave a better cutting angle. These curved blade swords quickly took the place of straight bladed swords in any samurais hand.

The hardest and sharpest part of the samurai sword is the tip and if you are going to buy a Samurai sword you should know that this is also the hardest part to polish and to sharpen. The value and usefulness of a samurai sword is often placed on the quality and durability of its tip.

IF you practice swordsmanship it is wise to use a wooden otherwise known as bokken. This is a proces the Samurai used so as not to damage their real swords from unnecessary damage.

Samurais would often give names to their sword. They believed this helped give their swords a spirit and perform better in battle. I have followed this tradition, albeit I have given slightly newer more Rock’n Roll names to my collection. How does a Wooden Samurai Sword call Dummy sound.

samurai-sword-katana-tantoThere are three distinct types of swords that can be classed as samurai swords. Firstly there is the Katana sword, this is the longest of all the samurai swords and was used in outdoor battle. The Wakizashi is slightly shorter than the katana and is normally about two thirds its length. This is normally used when a samurai was indoors as it has obvious benefits in enclosed spaces. The third type of samurai sword is know as the tanto, this is a much smaller sword and was used in a simlar manner to the wakizashi.

In ancient times the sword makers would test their new creation on corpses of prisoners and captives. The started by cutting through the small weak bones of their dead foes and would gradually work towards the harder to cut areas. The swords were graded by this method and heir price fixed.

The most powerful samurai was know as the shogun. This legendary warrior would wear two samurai swords and was a frightening oppenent in battle. Any of your enemies will be struck with fear if they see you, a modern day samurai with matching samurai swords as their enemy.

This first article is going to explain to you some things you should look at when you decide to buy a sword. Firstly you must consider what are you looking for in a sword? You may be looking for a fully functional and deadly sword, while other people are interested in buying a sword for display in as an ornament in rooms of their house. This article will help you to have an educated attitude when you buy a sword.

If you want to use your new sword as a device for cutting, martial arts , swordsmanship practice or other physical tasks, you should take great care when buying sword. A good sword basically means that the metal from the handle goes all the way along the length of the sword’s blade. This type of sword are generally stronger and safer than swords with a separate handle and blade.

buy-medieval-swordMaybe you just want a good looking sword to display in your house? You may not need to buy this type of sword. If yourfall into this category, you can save a large amount of money by buying a two piece sword. Maybe you are a certain type of sword enthusiasts who prefers a traditionally made sword with a full metal body even for display purposes, Although this is not necessary to have such a sword that, it will simply sit on display.

If you want to test the strength and sharpness of your new sword by doing cutting tests? I recommend buying a 1 piece sword with a carbon steel blade. Swords with carbon steel will stay sharper for longer periods of time and they also need less maintenance including sharpening. The flip side of this though is that carbon steels will rust if not cared for and treated properly. To prevent rust from occuring, constantly coat your side in a thin layer of vaseline or oil.
